About Dent
Dent is a small village located in Dentdale and is a small village located on the western slopes of Pennines within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Dent is a residency of Cumbria but falls under then Yorkshire Dales National Park because of its location within the Pennies. The famous 3 peaks walk can be accessed through Dent’s Flintergill & Outrake Trail walk which is located close to High Laning Farm.
Dent is the birth place of famous Geologist Adam Sedgewick who was born in 1785 and went on to become one of the town’s famous son’s. As well as this whilst fishing on the Dee at Dentdale in the 1840s, William Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong saw a waterwheel in action, supplying power to a marble quarry. It struck Armstrong that much of the available power was being wasted and it inspired him to design a successful hydraulic engine, which began the accumulation of his wealth and industrial empire.
The modern village is home to the famous Dent Brewery, A small independent microbrewery that produces a selection on premium ale's. Also Dent is home to the highest recorded railway station at 1,150 feet above sea level.
