Beech Estate Campsite
Beech Estate Woodland Campsite is nestled on the edge of a 600-acre wood within a 2,000-acre private estate in East Sussex, classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is one of The Secret Campsites, a collection of Real Camping and Wild Glamping sites focused on nature, peace and space. Beech Estate offers fully equipped, pre-erected bell tents or the opportunity to pitch your own tent in a beautiful woodland area where exploration is encouraged and campfires are allowed.
Close to the historic town of Battle, near Hastings, the site is easily reached from London and the South Coast.
The pre-erected bell tents and woodland pitches at Beech Estate are all set in clearings among the trees. We also have a limited number of faraway pitches for people who appreciate their own space and seclusion (and don't mind a longer walk to the toilets or showers).
The woodland offers limitless walks, forest rises perfect for mountain bike riding and areas for kids to make dens and run wild. Guests at the campsite have the exclusive use of the Estate’s woodlands, as there is no access for the general public.
Campers who choose to stay in one of our bell tents will benefit from all the advantages of wild woodland camping, with their own designated fire pit area, grill for cooking and firewood allocation, but can enjoy the comfort of our pre-erected bell tents. Each tent has beds, cooking equipment and a picnic table and chairs.
Adjacent to the campsite is the Estate’s meadowland area of conservation, which encompasses 110 acres of the largest and most important surviving tracts of interconnected ancient meadow in the South East. The Beech Estate woodlands and meadows support birds of prey such as hobby, buzzard, kestrel, sparrow hawks and barn owls. The meadows are full of orchids, ox-eye daisies, quaking grasses, bird’s foot trefoil and knapweed. As it stands 34 different species of butterfly have been identified on Beech Estate (including clouded yellows and painted ladies) as well as a number of rare insects.
Our campsite has unique composting eco toilets and showers in a custom-made wooden gypsy style caravan as well as a number of flushing toilets. The campsite is off-grid with no electricity but we do have a mains water supply.
We operate a small scale quiet, relaxed and laid back campsite. We don’t allow amplified music and have a low noise policy from 10 pm in the evenings. Our site is a great place for friends and family groups to catch up and whole campsite bookings are possible. A warden is resident on site to assist campers at all times.
