Moat Vale
Moat Vale Campsite is located within the wooded landscape of Netherby Estate. A quiet backwater land, more tranquil than the congested Lake District but handy for trips out to Hadrian's Wall, the Nothern Lakes Dand the Galloway Coast. Carlisle city is 12 miles away and local facilities can be found in the village of Longtown, 3 miles down the road.
Netherby Estate is part of the Debatable Lands of the Anglo-Scottish Borders and evidence of the skirmishing can be found in the number of fortified buildings in the area, including the Hermitage Castle, Gilnockie Tower and Carlisle Castle
On the small holding are sheep, chickens and an extensive vegetable garden.
Cyclists doing long distance routes such as national cycle way route 7 , the Border Reivers Route and the Lands end to John o Groats find us a handy stop over point for recuperation.
We are also handy for sea trout and salmon fishing on the Border Esk and River Liddle. The world famous Willow Pool is about a mile from Moat Vale.
Free hot showers on tap
There are numerous little used public rights of way through the farmland in the area, as well as picturesque riverside walks along the Border Esk. Famous for it's trout and salmon fishing, the Willow Pool on the Esk is less than a mile away. The campsite has a campfire area for cooking your catch of a balmy summer evening.
Do come and visit us, either as a base for touring around the area or as a handy stop over while heading north or south over the border.
