Private Campsite in the Mountains

The picturesque views of the mountains make it the perfect destination to escape the city life and rejuvenate by the fireplace and under the stars. The sunny summer months boast unforgettable sunrise and sunsets. The surrounding peaks are often covered with snow in winter months and there are beautiful waterfalls.

Waboomsrust offers 4x4 enthusiasts a quick escape from the city. Views over the Molenaarsriver are spectacular from the high vantage points at the top of the trail. Rated a 3 to 5 in difficulty (depending on weather conditions), the trail’s drivability will change dramatically after rain, thanks to its slippery clay surface. The rest of the route is rock-and-clay based, along with a few river crossings and plenty of cross-axle situations for which you’ll need a diff-lock. On the route, a long, steep descent tests your fear of heights, while a shorter, even steeper descent (45 degrees minimum) is sure to get the adrenal glands pumping. Scenery includes mountainous terrain, game watching, high vantage points over the Du Toitskloof Valley, and plenty of flora – including endemic fynbos.
The trail starts at the venue and you make your way up to the top where you'll make a U-turn back down. Total driving time is around two hours – provided you don’t get stuck, and depending on your skill level and mechanical sympathy. You’ll need at least 300mm of underbody ground clearance, along with low-range (and, ideally, a rear diff-lock) to complete each obstacle.

There is an intimate venue on the farm next to the campsite that can be booked for special celebrations. We warmly welcome celebrations, from birthdays to lazy luncheons, workshops, work events and editorial shoots - intimate and informal. It is very popular for weddings, where you will be framed by a backdrop of magnificent mountain views.

We have a butchery on the farm. Freddie started his butchery in 2002 and has been an instrumental aspect of its success. He experimented with charcuterie (cold smoked products) using game. He also perfected the traditional recipes and has a reputation for his mouthwatering boerewors.
