About Porlock
Porlock ' the friendly village ' is just a short stroll from the park and caters well for tourists by offering an excellent selection of cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops. There is also a first class information centre, village recreation ground with tennis courts, a bowling green and children's play area.
It is situated in a beautiful vale, surrounded on three sides by ancient woodland and heather covered hills, and on the fourth side, the Bristol Channel provides breathtaking views along the coast and across to Wales.
Its spectacular beauty is protected by both The National Trust and Exmoor National Park and its unique situation allows Porlock to experience a wonderful warm, soft climate which helps make it a true village for all seasons.
Old world charm is still retained by the village with its 13th century church and museum housed on the winding main street alongside traditional thatched cottages. Most country pursuits are available locally.
The lovely harbour at Porlock Weir lies a little way to the west of the village and is the subject of many picture postcards.
This is a serene place where the sun sets magically against a sleepy shore.
The Weir proudly boasts a fine restaurant and Inn and is home to a Blacksmith and Glassblower.
From here you can walk on through enchanted woodland to the tiny church reputed to be the smallest complete parish in England.
Porlock is the perfect place to get away from the stresses of modern life and recharge your batteries. It is truly a village for all seasons and one thing is certain, once you have visited Porlock, you will always hope to return.
